The Fair Pint? Campaign is a coalition of independent, tied landlords, supported by the Freedom for Pubs Association.
Together, we aim to remove the tie from all leased pubs (except those tied to brewers who own up to 500 pubs) - simply enabling landlords to compete in a fair market.
We hope that breaking the tie will benefit the well-run independent pubs which are currently at risk of closure, bringing a fairer price for both landlords and customers, and protecting a valuable community asset.
To achieve this, we are calling for:
The Business and Enterprise Committee to review whether the recommendations of the 2004 Trade and Industry Select Committee report on Public House Ownership have been met - including openess about the way rents are calculated, and the removal of up-ward only rent reviews.
The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) to investigate the problem presented by the supply tie, and if necessary refer this and the matter of rent formulation to the Competition Commission.
